Action Returns To Agassiz Speedway

After a month off due to races being rained, stock cars returned to action at Agassiz Speedway for the Prospera Credit Union Day. In attendance where the every exciting hornets, action packed street stocks and mini stocks, the high horse power sportsman late models and the lighting quick focus midgets.

The mini stocks saw Aaron Willison in his #41 Nissan 240 put on a dominating show sweeping the night. The heat race was full of action with Willison, the 94 of Wayne Goodwin, and the 51 of Billy Beasley battle for the top spot. As the race reached the half way point the 51 made contact with the 94 resulting in the 94 turning sideways in turn three, as the field came by the 38 of Tyler Thomas collided with the 94 ending the Thomas' night. The main event started with the 50 of Norm Hillert and Willison battle for the lead until lap 4 when th 41 completed the pass from the high side. As the field spread out no one would be able to challenge the 41 as he ran away with his second win of the season.

The first Street stock heat race saw the 6 of Jessie bridge and the 67 of Tom Jones battle for the lead from flag to flag. Bridge held the bottom for the entire race forcing Jones to challenge her on the high side. in the end Bridge was able to hold on for the win. In the second heat race the 55 of Trent McArthur lead early and did not look back. The action was behind the 55 with the X car of Paul Tourand and the 8 of John Chatwin battling hard for the second spot with the 8 being the victor and following the 55 across for 2nd. In the main event the field followed the 67 and the 45 of John O'Rielly to the green. On lap 8 the 67 spun in turn three as the field came by the 28 of Murray Jones collided with the sideways 67 then the inside wall damaging his steering and radiator ending his night. On the restart the X of Tourand passed the 48 of Kelly Moto for the lead he would be followed by the 55. On lap 24 the 25 of Howie Webb spun  in turn one bringing out the yellow once again. On the restart the X lead the 55 and the 18 of Cameron Graham to the flag. As the laps ticked by the 45 retired to the pits when his oil pressure dropped to 10 psi. Tourand would collect his first win of 2011 followed by the 55 and 8.

The sportsman saw a great heat race battle between the 33 of Dave Hemrich and the 86 of Tom Berrows. Berrows would complete the pass on hemirch and take the lead. Hemrich finished second followed by the 58 of Bob Kuhn. In the main event the 2 of John Ross and the 9 of Geordie Glenn fought for the early until on lap 7 the hard charging hemrich made his way to the front and did not look back. The 2 would hold on for 2nd followed by teammate Berrows in the 86.

In the midget class the Heat race saw rookie Billy Bell in the 55 battle hard with the 46 of Steve Hora for the lead until a steering malfunction saw the 55 slide up the track in turn three and make contact with the outside wall. After a quick check of the car he rejoined the filled for the restart. On the restart the 11 of Troy Globe moved under the 77 of Jeremiah Franklin and then went after the 46. In the end Globe made the pass and came home with the win. In the main event the 46 once again jumped out to the early lead with the 77 and 55 following him. As the race went on the 11 of Globe and the 41 of Kris McKenzie started making there way through the field with Globe leading push to the front. Globe would eventually pass the 46 of Hora and pull away for his second win of 2011.

In the Hornets heat race wins went to the 92 car, the 25 of Jack Striker and the 85 of John Madsen. The main event saw 24 cars take the start following the 25 of Striker and the 51 of Todd Grant. As the field battled for position early on several cars where making hard charges through the pack, the 58 of Dalton Kuhn and the 6 of Dean Bridge where moving up quickly while further back the 41 of Curtis Williams and the 61 of Robert Adams where also making a push to the front.

On lap 9 the first caution can out as the 40 of Rod Kuhn collided with the turn two wall ending his night. As the race restarted the field once again battled hard and on lap 14 the 17 of Cameron Jones got turn sideways by the 11 of Matt Ostermeier the 17 slide through the pit entrance resulting in the race staying green. As the race continued on the hard charging 58 and 6 cars found there way to the front of the pack as well as the 96 of Randy Doerksen. When the checkered flew the 58 of Kuhn found himself victorious for the first time in 2011 followed by the 6 and the 25.

Next race at Agassiz will be June 25.
