Ryan Phillippe takes his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend out for coffee... but is he the daddy?

Ryan Phillippe was photographed in Los Angeles yesterday for the very first time with his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp since she became pregnant.

The 36-year-old actor and the model-actress, who dated on and off until September last year, were spotted picking up drinks at a Coffee Bean.

Phillippe, who was said to have doubts about the paternity of the unborn child later dropped the 21-year-old off at her home.

Us Weekly broke the news that Knapp was expecting and had announced to pals that ex Phillippe was the father back in March, but they added that Reese Witherspoon's ex wanted a paternity test.

The Lincoln Lawyer actor, who already has two children - Ava, 11 , and seven-year-old Deacon - with Witherspoon, 36 , apparently told a friend he wasn't sure that he is the father, but the source added: 'If it's his, he'll take responsibility.'

So Undercover star Knapp, meanwhile was said to be is 'really excited to be a mom,'another insider said.

'She has been telling people he is the father,' a source is quoted as telling America's Us Weekly magazine.

Knapp was sporting a huge baby bump, and she seemed to be extremely close to Phillipe.

The parents-to-be appeared to be exhibiting positive body language but though Knapp is leaning in with her bump, Phillippe has his hands in his pockets and looks dismayed.

It appears from his stance to be an errand of duty more than anything else.

Not yet an established star, Knapp has only appeared in small roles in comedy movies Couple's Retreat and Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief.

Phillippe was in a romance with Red Riding Hood star Amanda Seyfriend when the news of the pregnancy broke.

Their relationship had been on and off since they first met in late October at a Halloween party hosted by Kate Hudson

When the news broke, the Red Riding Hood star initially stood by her man but they finally called time on their relationship just a few weeks ago.

Phillippe divorced Witherspoon in 2006 amid reports alleging he had began an extramarital relationship with Abbie Cornish, who was his co-star in the war film Stop Loss.
