ASA MEMBER TRACK PROMOTER ADAM NELSON IS ONE OF THE NOMINEES FOR THE RPM AUTO RACING PROMOTER OF THE YEAR

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Tuesday, January 4, 2011) - Adam Nelson, Promoter of Meridian Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Meridian, ID is one of six promoters nominated for the 2010 RPM Auto Racing Promoter of the Year.  This is the first time that Nelson has been nominated for this prestigious award.

Nelson is one of six promoters for the top honor.  His nomination comes after he was announced as the Rocky Mountain West Region Promoter of the Year.  Promoters from six different regions in the United States are the finalists for the top honor which will be announced on the opening day of the 38th Annual RPM Speedweek National Workshop which takes place on February 14-16, 2011 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort in Daytona Beach, FL.

"It's a really cool deal and it's exciting especially for Meridian Speedway.  It hasn't been nominated since the mid 80's when my dad, Lee Roy Nelson, ran it," Nelson said. "To be nominated by your peers is something really cool.  When you are in the same category like Lanny and Beverly Edwards along with the other nominees, it really makes you feel special with the group of people you are listed with."

Nelson won the regional award from his peers as he was nominated by his fellow regional promoters in an open ballot.  "This really says a lot when they have a blank to write in a promoter's name and it is my name that they put on there," Nelson said.

This past November, Nelson received the Reg Midgley Perpetual First Class Promotion for their annual Diamond Cup event at the 42nd Annual Western Auto Racing Promoters Association Conference.

Nelson is the third generation to promote Meridian Speedway, the track that is located right in downtown Meridian, ID under the water tower.  His grandfather Bill Crow ran the track during the 60's and 70's and his father ran it from 1982-84.  Nelson recently completed his second season at Meridian but is a seasoned promoter and waited patiently for his opportunity to return to the track that has been in his family for over 40 years.  His son, Colton, is hoping to become a fourth generation promoter.  He won the Junior Stinger division championship this season at Meridian.
