White Earns NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie Honors
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2010) -- NASCAR announced today that Derek White has earned the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 Rookie of the Year honors after finishing 14th in the overall final point standings.
White, out of Kahnawake, Que., was the top-finishing rookie on three occasions this season. He also finished second among all rookie drivers three times in 2010. White posted a season-best overall finish of seventh in the season opener in June at Delaware (Ont.) Speedway.
New to NASCAR in 2009, White competed in four events, all in his home province of Quebec, before deciding to make at run at the rookie of the year award in 2010.
In addition to his experience in the Canadian Tire Series, White has also made a pair of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts in 2009 – Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
Past winners of this award include Jason White in 2008 and Joey Hanssen last season.
White will be honored along with the top rookie drivers from NASCAR’s other Developmental Series on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala in the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center within the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
