Sony has joined the “screw you, broke ass gamers” club Posted: 08 Jul 2011 02:53 PM PDT If you’re a gamer on a budget, some more bad news: Sony hates you too. In what is starting to become the norm, Sony recently revealed that Resistance 3 will come shipped with a PSN Pass (various state that it’s not the final name, btw). Basically, it’s another one-time use code that allows one to go online and do anything. Furthermore, if folks buy the game used, they’ll have to spend 5, 10, or whatever else to nab the pass and be up to speed. It’s something that various other publishers have been testing, and thus far, they’re happy with the results. Since it means more cash after the fact. And who hurts the most from all of this? Well, the primary target is Gamestop and other used game sellers, who are making additional profits from their games, that they’re not getting a dime of, but the real victims are poor gamers who can’t afford a new game at the $60 mark. Not much else needs to be said here; the situation is complicated. On one hand, I completely sympathize with publishers who want to reap more profits. Those games don’t happen by themselves, there’s lots of work (and people behind the scenes involved). If you do the math and account for inflation, realistically, games should be around the $100+ range (no joke). And while I have no issues with the notion of used games sales per say, I passionately hate the current number one distribution model (as noted not too long ago, so no need to repeat myself). But then you have the folks who legit want to enjoy games but are not able to play the full price of admission. What are they to, other than bend over? Many believe that today’s AAA titles not worth the asking price to begin with, though that begs the question as to why they want to support such games in the first place. And personally, I’d be more up for the idea of saving myself some dollars and getting second-hand if not for the fact that no one knows how to take care of their stuff anymore, but that’s really getting off topic… Meanwhile, the Wedbush analyst that just loves chiming in on anything video game related, Michael Pachter, says that it’s poorly timed and ultimately won’t work. Unfortunately, I believe the former and don’t think the latter. As it’s been demonstrated, people will do whatever to play the game they want, period. Also, it’s Sony; they kinda don’t care what people think and will just go on ahead as they please. Heidi Klum and her model friends wearing bikinis (and less) Posted: 08 Jul 2011 01:00 PM PDT Heidi Klum, who seems to be all about getting naked for things lately, got halfway there for the latest GQ Russia, along with some of her old modeling pals like Karolina Kurkova and a few others. I say “a few others” because I don’t read Russian and I’m too lazy to research who all these women are. I think one of them is Gisele and the rest, eh, I really don’t care. If you know who they are and want to tell us in the comments, well then, that’d be okay. Otherwise just do what I did and stare at the pics for awhile before getting back to work. It’s pretty much how I spend my whole day. |
VIDEO: Incredible bicycle kick goal in 89th minute gives Mexico win over Germany Posted: 08 Jul 2011 11:30 AM PDT We realize that the U-17 World Cup is probably not on your sports radar. However, given the current state of lockouts with the NBA and NFL, there’s simply not much else going on. Which brings us to this game-winning goal from Mexico’s Julio Gomez. A perfectly timed bicycle kick in the 89th minute to defeat Germany and advance to the final. This is slightly off-topic but I feel I have to share this conversation I had with a bar patron after the goal was scored.
I slowly moved away lest he slap me in the face with a U.S. flag and beat me down with a copy of the Constitution. |
VIDEO: Time to chill with Cole Phelps and… Sonic The Hedgehog? Posted: 08 Jul 2011 11:15 AM PDT Two very different ways to just kick it and relax. Okay, not so much the first example. It deals with the wacky weed, which always leads the fun times, unless Detective Phelps is on your ass. Next Tuesday is when the much-awaited Refer Madness case becomes available for download for LA Noire… Now, for something legitimately relaxing, why not chill to the soft and soothing sounds of some guy narrating his play-through of Sonic? And here’s part two… The person behind the effort is a guy named docture btw, basically the unquestionable master of combing video game footage and… stuff. |
