Lupus: Picnic will rally teams for upcoming Lupus Walk

Lupus Foundation of America's Indiana chapter will host a Walk for Lupus Now team rally at 6 p.m. Monday at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St.

The chapter will provide drinks, hot dogs and hamburgers, and guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

Walk for Lupus Now Northwest Indiana will be Sept. 10 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, a new location for the annual fundraiser.

Teams from businesses, schools, churches and civic organizations participate in the event. Former participants have included lupus patients and their families, parents with young children in wagons and strollers, high school students, college fraternities and church youth groups. Students can earn service hours by participating.

Along with directly affecting Walk for Lupus Now fundraising, team captains motivate and encourage others to join teams by raising awareness of lupus. Last year, 93 percent of all funds raised at Walk for Lupus Now in Hobart were raised by the more than 50 participating teams.

There is no registration fee to participate in Walk for Lupus Now. Incentive prizes will be offered for fundraising.

Team leader packets, sponsor information, fundraising suggestions, yard signs, butterfly tributes and more will be distributed at the rally. Experienced team leaders will share their experiences and offer suggestions to new teams. Guests will learn about team banner incentives, butterfly tribute fundraising and more.

Guests should RSVP to (800) 948-8806 or nwiwalk@lupusindiana.org to be included in a drawing to win a $25 gift certificate to Gelsosomo's in Crown Point.

Teams are encouraged to register online at www.walkforlupusnownwi.kintera.org. Team leaders are encouraged to set up online home pages through the walk site. Walkers can join teams or register as individuals. Those without Internet service can call toll free (800) 948-8806 to register. Read More
