| How to impress your lady friend on Valentine’s Day – Part 1, take 2 Posted: 11 Feb 2011 07:53 PM PST So, I’ll admit it. I went a little full retard. And everyone knows you never go full retard. I confess that the first take of “Part 1″ was a bit expensive. I never meant for the pieces to be bought at once, more so over time. I wanted you to see how these pieces could fit together and work for a nice ensemble. With that said, I’m gonna go all Wal-Mart on you guys and rollback the prices. Check out the new and improved (and more affordable) dinner date outfit. Club Room Blazer, Estate Traveler Navy – $250, on sale $129.99 So, this is my personal go-to blazer. I love the two-button style and the notch lapels. Take it to the tailor for that perfect fit and you’ll have a versatile navy blazer you can wear in formal and casual occasions. (where the big MFers at?) These pants were the talk of the interwebs when they originally went on sale. I know there are only bigger sizes left, but once the next season comes around snatch these up for F/W 2011. Get them cuffed and hemmed for no break. No break in your pants actually gives the impression of making you look taller. So, my sub-5’9″ dudes your trousers should always be no break or pretty damn near it. Sometimes you just gotta rely on Macy’s to get you through the essentials on the cheap. If you ever need a quick fix for a shirt/tie, my go to store has always been Macy’s. Steal your mom’s/girlfriend’s/sister’s Macy’s card and grab that 20% off that never seems to go away. The Tie Bar’s quality is at times suspect, but you can’t deny their affordability. Keep your ties at no less than 2.5″ wide and no more than 3.25″ wide. Anything more or less is too much and ruins the look. For a little color add this paisley pocketsquare, a great deal from The Tie Bar. I tried my best to find a pair of good quality shoes that were under $150, but I couldn’t in good conscience post about them. These are the closest I could find and my friends love their pair. Florsheim has some great, quality shoes for fairly affordable prices. Don’t sleep on them. So there you have it. I hope you’re able to find some pieces in there for your next big event or dinner date, and still leave enough money in the bank to actually buy the dinner. |

| How to dress casual and not feel (or look) like a douche Posted: 11 Feb 2011 03:59 PM PST I had someone drop by my “Ask” box on my tumblr page. His question was, “‘…What do you do for a casual look? I feel like I’m past the t-shirt and jeans phase but feel like a douche if I’m wearing a sweater with button down on a casual evening out at a local bar.‘”
Personally, I think that’s the perfect casual look. You want to wear things that are versatile and don’t make you look like a slob. After all, if you’re going out to the local bar it probably means you’ve got a girl on your radar. Why would you dress in a way that would make you look like every other dude trying to pick her up (see “A Beautiful Mind“)? Don’t be afraid to stand out by cleaning yourself up a bit. You shouldn’t feel like a douche for actually being well-dressed. Ladies like a man that's well-put together. It means you take yourself seriously, which is attractive to a woman. She wants to be with someone who's confident and your clothes undoubtedly give that off (ladies, by all means let me know if I'm wrong). A t-shirt and jeans screams dude-who-hasn’t-left-college-yet. Which in turn makes her think, “He probably can’t even afford to buy me a beer.” (Translation: I’m not even remotely interested in going home with him.) But wearing a comfortable oxford cloth button-down shirt, a well-fitting cardigan, and dark wash jeans gives off a completely different vibe (read: You’re dressing your age and she’s more apt to think you’re ready for her jelly). Don’t lose out on a girl because you decided not to wear the button down shirt that’s been sitting in the back of your closet for months. It’s all in the details, gentlemen, take advantage of it. So, here’s what I’m thinking – Just roll up the cuffs on the button-down/sweater, make sure you've got the top button (or two) undone, and that everything fits well in proportion to your body. Invest in some v-neck tees, so the collar doesn’t show when you wear the button-up shirts unbuttoned at the top. Grab a pair of slim or straight-fit dark wash jeans, like GAP selvedge denim. I own these and can totally vouch for their quality and comfort. They’re $90 but GAP denim is ALWAYS on sale. I got mine for $60. If that’s out of your price range, Levi’s 514s, or 501s for you stockier dudes, are perfect – just make sure to stick to a darker wash*. Keep these things in mind and you'll look good, feel good, and maybe a lady or two will do some feelin' up on ya because of it (kidding…not really). Oh, and in terms of footwear you definitely have options. You can wear canvas sneakers like Vans Authentics, maybe an old pair of Chuck’s, or you can go classic and wear your boat shoes. If you want to dress it up a bit, put on a pair casual dress shoes or loafers. At the end of the day its how you carry yourself, so have confidence and keep your head up. If you look good with your clothes on, she’s going to want to know how good you look with them off. Trust. Don’t forget…*yoda voice* Clothes a man do not make. Just be you and look good whilst doing it. The ladies will appreciate it and frankly, don’t act like everything we do isn’t about getting a girl. Check out the options I put together below for a little inspiration and go kill it at the next happy hour. All sweaters are from Gap.com and the jeans are Levi’s 501s dark wash. The first pair of shoes are taupe suede Bass Barrets($79 at bassshoes.com, but also try Zappos or Piperlime). The middle are white canvas Vans Authentics and of course, the Chuck Taylors. *Sidenote: Dark wash jeans are an easy to way to feel casual, but still look like you’re ready for a night out on the town. They’re probably the most versatile pair of jeans you’ll buy. Definitely grab a pair ASAP if you haven’t. Plus, if you spill a Bud heavy on them on Friday, Febreeze that ish and wear them again on Saturday. Nobody will be the wiser because the wash will hide the stain. BOOM. |
| Remi Gaillard recreates real-life Mario Kart Posted: 11 Feb 2011 02:30 PM PST
Maybe that’s too high, but it’s a pretty damn good game and it generally reminds everyone of either a) childhood or b) getting real freaking stoned in a dorm room or c) both. Just depends on how long you played. And even though the Wii version of the game creates a reasonable simulation of the fantastic racing game, it’s nothing like what you’ll see below. |
| This Michael Young fan video will make you cry Posted: 11 Feb 2011 02:16 PM PST I’ll admit, I’m one of those tough guys. I rarely find a reason to cry outside a funeral and repeated kicks to the groin. But this video of a 3-year old Michael Young fan finding out he may not be on the Rangers anymore made me sob like a baby. So congrats internet, you win. You finally broke me. If anybody knows who this mom is, please pass onto me. Not because she seems like a huge bitch and I literally want to gouge her eyes out with a spoon but because I plan on turning her in to Child Protective Services. Michael Young is still a part of the Rangers you stupid wench. If the goal was to send your child into a deep depression before he even reaches pre-school, well, what a remarkable achievement. My goal now is to get this kid on a “Make-A-Wish” foundation trip ASAP. Disney World, Disney Land, Hawaii, I don’t care. Hell, I’ll foot the bill. Just don’t show me this video ever again. It’s too emotionally draining. H/t: Jimmy Traina Twitter |
