| Facebook gets politically correct with its relationship stati Posted: 17 Feb 2011 02:41 PM PST
Either way, Facebook’s added a couple more of them, including “In a civil union” and “In a domestic partnership.” As you may have guessed, these are not business relationships. Nope, they’re for members of the LGTB community. “As LGBT people face a pathwork of relationship recognition laws, this gives people more tools to adequately describe their relationship,” said Michael Cole, spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign. “Facebook has been a company that has tried to be inclusive of the LGBT community and this just one sign of it.” As anyone who’s read anything that I’ve ever written knows, I like to make jokes. But now isn’t the time for those, because this is actually a really cool step that Facebook — an online corporate entity — is taking, whether you disagree with their stance or not. See, for some silly reason, a lot of this people in this country can’t grasp the fact that people in love, who happen to be of the same sexuality want to — GASP — live together. And it’s illegal in a bunch of places for people of the same sex to get married. Which is just ridiculous, frankly. Look, it’s not my cup of tea to swing the other way, and if you’re reading this site and you’re a dude, it’s probably not yours either. But who cares? As you can see above, I’m about to get married myself. (Why thank you, that’s very nice of you to compliment me. Now go friend me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter and find out how to send me presents or yell at me for tak’n er jerb because you hate this post.) And while I very much love the Future Mrs. Brinson, it’s also totally fair that we subject EVERYONE to the process of getting married. Plus, if Facebook (a freaking internet community, people!) can be open enough to welcome a logical step in human rights, the rest of the world and/or country should be to. |
| The Magic Johnson/Larry Bird Broadway show you always dreamed of Posted: 17 Feb 2011 02:31 PM PST It appears that NBA Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are taking their talents to Broadway. Well, maybe not the athletes themselves but the story of their relationship that is.
Who knew that sports rivalries were so intriguing as to make plays out of. Maybe one day we’ll have LeBron James and uh, eh, wait, um that one player he hated going up against. Oh no, I’m sorry, that never happened. He’s everyones friend in the NBA. At best, we’d have to settle for LeBron vs. the city of Cleveland and/or Comic Sans aficionado Dan Gilbert. Oh, how exciting. I’d rather go see “The Nutcracker” with my wife while a midget sat underneath my seat and repeatedly used my testicles as a speed bag. Let the above be exhibit A as to why the NBA is not nearly as exciting or as “fantastic” as it used to be (the LeBron part–not the midget and my nuts). | Today in style – February 17th Posted: 17 Feb 2011 02:08 PM PST LeBron shows 'em how it's done Why beards should be more socially acceptable; Suede shoes for the Spring; Crazy prints all over menswear; Why LeBron James stays winning for his off the court style.
Thighs Bigger Than Your Head throws down the gauntlet on beard naysayers. I stay with the opinion that a beard is a necessary thing to grow out at least once in your life. Get hipped to some new suede shoes for the Spring over at The Life and Times of C. Benjamin. CB is good friend and trust me when I say he’s on top of his style game. Oh, every shoe is less than $100. Stay classy for less, gents. Prints are coming back in big way this year in menswear. We Are The Market gives us a first-hand look at what some menswear brands are offering at (capsule) Las Vegas. (For the record, I saw the Reyn Spooner collection in person at (capsule) NYC and it was awesome. ) GQ has a nice little piece on why LeBron James is the best dressed athlete in the world. Hell, if I had his millions I’d be rocking custom Italian-made suits everyday, too. |
| Michelle Lewin is an excellent swimsuit model Posted: 17 Feb 2011 01:00 PM PST Does that bikini top look a little small for her? I have absolutely no idea who Michelle Lewin is, but thankfully the folks over at M magazine do know who she is and realized just how AWESOME she would look if photographed in a bikini. Oh, Internet, you so crazy, I just found out that Michelle is a 24 year-old model from Venezuela. Her model profile says, “NO NUDES unless you’re Hugh Hefner … And remember, this is NOT a dating site – I’m here for work.” Dammit. There goes that idea. It also says that she always brings a male escort to all her photography sessions for security. And there goes another idea out the window. |
