| VIDEO: Watch Serena Williams in the Top Spin 4 ad that 2K Sports doesn’t want you to see Posted: 21 Mar 2011 07:56 PM PDT Earlier today, a commercial featuring tennis superstar Serena Williams, for the upcoming Top Spin 4, began making the rounds online. And it seemed hardly anything special… till word got out that the game's publisher, 2K Sports, does NOT want anyone seeing it. Kotaku considers it NSFW, but I honestly see nothing all that offensive. It’s no more titillating than your average Lady Gaga music video. Too be honest, the whole thing’s a bit too Gaga-ish if you ask me. Anyhow, the advertisement was originally posted by Williams's co-star, which got 2K HQ quite upset, and has since been yanked. Their statement: “As part of the process for creating marketing campaigns to support our titles, we pursue a variety of creative avenues. This video is not part of the title’s final marketing campaign and its distribution was unauthorized.” The not ready for prime time commercial has since made a return thanks to folks who saved the original (the above is courtesy of Kotaku, which seems the least likely party to lose their grip on it). Perhaps it’s a big to do about nothing and someone simply gave up the goods before the time was right. Or maybe there’s something else going on? We’ll update the situation if there are any developments. |

| R.I.P. worthless video game instruction manuals Posted: 21 Mar 2011 05:40 PM PDT
You know, the little paper books that come stuffed inside the box with the disc? No? You don’t remember those? Yeah, that’s probably why they’re dumping them. Actually, EA’s getting rid of them in order to go “green” (so says spokesman Rob Semsey, per Owen Good of Kotaku, who also took the picture to the right) and make the games more environmentally friendly. This is a pretty logical move: if 5,000,000 copies of Madden are sold, that’s approximately 12,000 trees smashed up into little pieces just so everyone can ignore the words that are printed on their dead tree bodies. Also, eliminating the manual inside the game box significantly reduces the printing and shipping costs of each game. Whether or not that’s actually reflected in the retail cost of games, however, remains to be seen. EA isn’t actually the first video game company to make this move, however — Ubisoft ditched manuals about a year ago. Based on Ubisoft numbers from that time, it’s pretty obvious why. They said that TWO TONS of wood (albeit from “only” 13 trees, which means my math was a little off) were required for a game. Oh, and if you have a problem with this initiative, you’re obviously just an obstinate tree-hater. Either that or embarrassingly bad at video games. |

| VIDEO: Yesterday’s graphics with today’s audio Posted: 21 Mar 2011 02:17 PM PDT As an experiment, noted video game composer Jake “Virt” Kaufman decided to take various old 8-bit games and completely update the audio, to comply with today’s HD standards. That means realistic sound effects and voice work whenever applicable, in glorious surround sound no less. The end result? Pretty annoying actually! In the instance of the car crash Outrun, what used to be not such a big deal becomes rather gruesome, and for everything else, you will seriously want to jab your ear drums out. Though I must admit, I do enjoy the added dramatic flair that Tetris has all of a sudden has. You've Never Heard Tetris, Pac-Man and Mega Man Sound Like This [Kotaku] |
| Actress Juhi chawla talks about her movies Posted: 21 Mar 2011 08:14 PM PDT
The actress has learnt her lesson now and says that he tries to look at a script and story with the audience in mind. "I listen to a script as an audience and if I like it and I know I can crack it I go ahead and do it," she added. The actress said that she is extremely happy for Aamir Khan, with whom she has delivered many hits like ’Kayamat Se Kayamat Tak’, ’Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke’ and ’Ishq’. "I’m very happy for Aamir. He was always extremely bright. He stuck out and said I don’t want to do films which don’t make sense to me. It has paid off," said Juhi.
