| VIDEO: Rebecca Black sings about “Friday” so you don’t have to Posted: 13 Mar 2011 09:44 PM PDT I don’t think there’s ever been a video we’ve been emailed, submitted on Tumblr, and been yelled at about on the street more than Rebecca Black’s song “Friday”. The song has racked up over a million views since, coincidentally, Friday. And with good reason. It’s transcendent. There’s a lot to love about the awfulness of this video — though, when I saw this Friday afternoon, my first impression was that it was made deliberately awful to get any sort of attention. But I’m going to screencap and highlight a couple of my favorite things. Could no one get this poor homely girl some cover-up for her big music video debut? There was clearly a good amount of effort put into producing this atrocity but no one thought, “Hey, we could probably just put a little bit of make-up on this bullseye Becks has on her face”? Just because she has the songwriting and vocal execution of a pizza doesn’t mean you should allow her to go out there looking like one. People are really clinging to the awful autotuned singing of Ms. Black informing listeners of where Friday falls on the calendar. But I found this to be the least objectionable part. I work from home. Do you know how hard it is to keep track of what day of the week it is? So this charming songstress really helped me out. Thursday is the day before Friday. And when it’s Saturday and Sunday, those days make up something called a “weekend,” meaning I don’t have to work. I’d have definitely forgotten that without her disharmonious advice. She’s like a life coach. I feel like this dude deserves all the blame. I believe he’s the producer (and this is his “official rap remix” of the song) and creator of this “anthem”. It’s fine if you want to be a mediocre rapper who enjoys rapping about the rotations of the earth and the silly names we give them, but if we can avoid dragging talentless, socially-awkward-penguin-esque Jewish girls into it, that’d be ideal. They had to have an adult drive a car for this. It’s not Friday unless your dad drives you and your friends to a party then hides to make it look like you can operate a piece of machinery without “Power Wheels” emblazoned on the side. This kid right here at 1:55 is the MVP of this video. What’re you doing on the weekend? Drinking at some dive bar? Playing Call of Duty? Whatever. This little dude is hanging out with girls much older, pumping his fist to Rebecca Black, not giving a fuck. His little lightly haired dong is getting poorly stroked tonight, fellas. Be jealous. Anyway, there’s your Rebecca Black “Friday” breakdown. And, based on her trending on Twitter all weekend, it appears Miss Black will soon receive even more praise from the general public. UPDATE: I just gif’d the kid in the green shirt because I love him so much. Here that is: [Thanks to all who sent it in.] |
| 7 of the most glaring inconsistencies in sitcom history Posted: 13 Mar 2011 06:00 AM PDT Since we crank out so many stories each week some really good ones get lost in the cracks. And since so many new people visit Guyism every day (thank you), we thought we’d start taking some time on the weekends to share some classics that many of our newer readers may have missed. Looking back at the shows we watched during our childhood, there were some weird things happening. Characters would disappear without a trace, sometimes reappearing a few episodes down the road with nary an explanation in sight. There were times where certain characters inexplicably shape-shifted. Oh what a crazy alternate universe some of these sitcoms took place in. 7 The Disappearance of Judy – Family Matters 6 Tori – Saved by the Bell 5 Morgan’s season long time out – Boy Meets World 4 Uncle Jesse’s two last names – Full House 3 Peggy’s nephew Seven – Married with Children 2 Rapidly aging Nicky – The Fresh Prince of Bel Air 1 Coy and Vance Duke – The Dukes of Hazzard |
