| VIDEO: The news as illustrated by Angry Birds & audio from an old Disney cartoon Posted: 29 Mar 2011 06:49 PM PDT If only CNN and Fox News could deliver the news as effectively. Bonus points for having the Angry Birds also act the role of Twitter birds as well. Though the very last bit has yet to happen. Time will only tell if it ever will. Anyhow, the idea of video game characters delivering the news is hardly original. Naturally, the Japanese have been doing it for a while. On the PS3 there’s an app featuring Katsuragi Misato, a character from the anime Evangelion, who reads headlines covering politics, the economy, sports, and entertainment. It’s basically a news reader that address the viewer via some fancy voice synthesis system and in the form of some polygonal anime hottie (whom you can also play dress-up with). Needless to say, Katie Couric can’t possibly compete. Disney and Angry Birds Explain Three Arab League Revolts in One Amazing Cartoon [Kotaku] |

| Nab a totally free copy of Halo: Reach just for being Microsoft’s guinea pig Posted: 29 Mar 2011 04:04 PM PDT The Xbox Dashboard is undergoing some changes and MS needs all the help they can get, including yours. Provided you qualify of course. Though according to Major Nelson, Microsoft’s community outreach figurehead, “your chances of making it in are good” due to how they’re looking for “multiple thousands of participants.” And what for exactly? As noted, the dash is going through yet another major revamp, to accommodate an “updated Xbox 360 disc format.” But since all signs point towards it being compatible with current software, it’s probably just some fancy new form of copy protection. And for your trouble, you get a free copy of Reach! Either one they have just lying around the warehouse, or one utilizing the new copy protection algorithm, who knows at this point. To get started, just hit this link. I’d be all over this deal myself, but one of the questions they ask is if you’re a member of the press, which I am, so no free Halo for me sadly. | Posted: 29 Mar 2011 02:58 PM PDT You gotta really hand it to the New York Mets PR department–you couldn’t script this stuff any better. After accepting BJ’s Wholesale Club as a sponsor for the team, the Mets inexplicably named some of their low cost seating, Mr. Mets BJ Club. And of course, the promotion made it on the website with a bunch of lovely ladies attached to it. Ladies, BJ’s, and an oversized mascot head. Lovely.
From what I understand, the “desperate men” were shown this video to entice them even more to buy these low cost tickets. The Mr. Mets BJ Club [Barstool Sports] |
